Post-Peel Instructions:
Sunburn Alert:  This procedure utilizes ingredients which may increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn.  Recommend using a sunscreen of at least SPF 20 and limiting sun exposure while using this product and for at least one week afterwards.

The skin may look and feel like a mild windburn for the next two to three days prior to peeling. After 48 hours a slight flaking may occur, which can easily be controlled with moisturizers such as the SkinMedica Ultra-sheer Moisturizer.  Suggest that they purchase SkinMedica Sensitive Skin Cleanser for home care.  Many ingredients in foundations are greasy, fragranced and can be irritating, therefore foundation should not be worn after the Vitalize Peel or during the days when the skin is actually peeling.  Avoid the sun, scrubs, AHA’s, glycolic acid, Vitamin C or retinol creams.  Let the skin shed at its own rate to avoid scarring or rashes, avoid pulling or peeling shedding skin.  After one week the skin should look clearer and smoother and the use of normal skin care products can resume.

Possible Side Effects:
Possible side effects may include mild redness, drying and/or flaking of the skin, itching, swelling, burning, blistering, skin discoloration, and possible crusting of the skin.  If swelling, burning, blistering, discoloration, or crusting occurs, contact the doctor’s office for assistance.

How long will this take?
From start to finish the entire procedure should take approximately 20 minutes.

When can I schedule my next peel?
The Vitalize Peel is gentle enough to use every three weeks for maximum benefits and a glowing, healthy start to your skin care regimen.  Ask your medical skin professional when to schedule your next Vitalize Peel.

Is this type of procedure safe?
When performed by an experienced and qualified physician or esthetician under a physician’s supervision the Vitalize Peel is a safe procedure.  Be sure to talk with your medical skin care professional prior to your peel and always disclose your full medical history.  Always follow your medical professional’s advice for before and after procedures.  Please see side effects.

Who is not a good candidate for a Vitalize Peel?
Patients who should avoid the Vitalize Peel include:

  • Patients with a history of allergies, rashes or other skin reactions or anyone with an allergy to salicylates (i.e. aspirin)

  • Patients who have taken Accutane within the past year, or received chemotherapy or radiation therapy

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women

  • Patients under the age of 12

What should I do after my peel?
You may be more sensitive to sun exposure.  Take extra precautions by using SkinMedica’s Daily Sun Protection for Faces or any sunscreen with an SPF 20 or higher.  We recommend limiting sun exposure for at least one week after your peel. Order SkinMedica products

Avoid strenuous exercise for two to three days, as the perspiration may irritate the skin.

When washing your face do not scrub.  Use a gentle cleanser such as SkinMedica Sensitive Skin Cleanser.

Avoid “helping” the skin to peel.  You can control the peeling with a light moisturizer such as SkinMedica Ultra Sheer Moisturizer.

Do not have any other facial treatment for at least one week after your peel.  You may resume the regular use of Retinols, alphahydroxy acid (AHA) products, Vitamin C, or bleaching creams ONLY after the peeling process is complete.
